Eisenhower State Park formerly known as Melvern State Park was renamed in 1990 by legislature to honor the only native son President Dwight Eisenhower. Located on the eastern fringe of the Flint Hills in southern Osage County. Eisenhower is 1,785 acres of rolling hills with 18 miles of trails, camping, playground, beach, horse shoe pits, sand volley ball court, frisbee disk golf, boat slip rentals, and basketball court for your family gatherings.
Over thirteen hundred acres of eastern tall grass prairie gives Eisenhower State Park a real feeling of the edge of the prairie. Equestrians can explore 18 miles of horse trails and stay in equestrian campsites with corrals. Cabins, yurts, a scooter trail, an archery trail, kids fishing pond, and more offer plenty of recreation in addition to the 6,930 acres of Melvern Lake.
Eisenhower State Park provides 186 utility campsites: 81 with water, 37 with sewer hookups, and five shower houses. Non-utility sites are available for primitive camping in Five-Star, Sailboat Beach, and Omaha Swim Beach. Fifteen Equestrian Campsites with electric/water and individual corrals are available in the upper loop of Westpoint Campground. Laundry facilities are availabe at the Doud shower building. Campers may stay at any one of the campgrounds for up to 14 consecutive days.
Ike's Shelterhouse is an excellent area for family reunions within the Jones Family Activity Area. Other recreation facilities including a swimming beach, horseshoe pits, playgrounds, picnic shelters, and an 18-hole disc golf course. Kayak, canoe, and dock rentals are available. Mamie's Cabin, two Yurts and our four NEW Modern Cabins for rent. Visit Ike's General Store located at Doud Campground to pay your campground fees, check out rentals and check out games. Eisenhower State Parks' Friends Group offers ice, ice cream snacks, and firewood for sale at Doud campground and a laundry is available.
Eisenhower is also home to a burgeoning trails system for horseback riding, biking, hiking, and archery. Crooked Knee Horse Trail offers equestrians an 18-mile excursion through the undeveloped west side of the park. Biking and hiking is available on the horse trail.
Wildlife include white-tailed deer, eastern wild turkey, bobwhite quail, squirrels, furbearers, and waterfowl.
Anglers seek walleye, crappie, sauger, white bass, and channel catfish. Two nine-lane boat ramps offer excellent access to Melvern Lake.
